Xinpu Township

Located in northeastern Hsinchu County, Xinpu is encircled by rolling hills that connect to the Hukou Plateau, with Xiaoli Creek flowing through. Its town center is the hub for transportation, culture, commerce, and the distribution of agricultural products. With over 200 years of Han Chinese settlement—especially by Hakka pioneers—Xinpu has retained rich Hakka traditions. Famous specialties like Hakka rice noodles and sun-dried persimmons remain celebrated, and the Yimin Temple in Fangliao is a focal point of Hakka faith. Widened County Routes 118 and 115 now link Xinpu more conveniently to National Highways 1 and 61, boosting its weekend tourism appeal.

Pear

Xinpu is renowned for its pears and persimmons. Pear orchards cover about 400 hectares across Nanping, Beiping, Hankeng, Zhaomen, Jiujiong Lake, and Jianzhuwu. In addition to traditional Xinpu pears, orchards now graft high-quality varieties such as Xinshui, Fengshui, Xinxing, “4029” Snow Pear, and Golden Pear.

Sun-Dried Persimmon

Thanks to Xinpu’s hilly terrain, dry climate, and the seasonal “Jiu-Jiang Wind” (September–December), conditions are ideal for drying persimmons naturally. Xinpu persimmons are famed nationwide for their fragrant, chewy texture. Agriculture remains Xinpu’s most vital industry.
