Beipu Township

Beipu Township

Beipu Township’s terrain is primarily mountainous and hilly, with two major basins—Beipu and Nanpu—shaped by deep river valleys. Although it lacks extensive alluvial plains, its fertile soils and abundant irrigation make it highly productive. As one of Hsinchu County’s last-developed areas, originally named “Zhubeyi First Fort, Nanxing Village,” Beipu’s unique history of fortified Hakka settlement has created a rich cultural heritage. Local cultural associations remain very active, making Beipu a dynamic showcase for Dapai Hakka culture and a vibrant Hakka cultural life circle.

Oriental Beauty Tea
Oriental Beauty Tea

The mountains and mists of Hsinchu County create an ideal environment for tea cultivation, especially in Beipu, Ermei, Hengshan, Baoshan, Zhudong, and Guanxi. Around the Grain in Ear solar term, tea green leafhoppers feed on new buds, triggering the production of “Oriental Beauty Tea” (Pangfeng Tea). Farmers hand-pick one bud with two leaves and process it using traditional techniques, producing Taiwan’s finest oolong.

Sweet Potato & Taro Cakes
Sweet Potato & Taro Cakes

Beipu’s mooncakes are famous across Taiwan for their unique fillings of sweet potato or taro. Each Mid-Autumn Festival, locals and visitors line up to buy boxes of taro cakes and sweet potato cakes as gifts or for personal enjoyment. Refined over more than 20 years, these cakes have repeatedly won gold medals in food competitions. Their moderate sweetness, non-greasy texture, and crisp, durable crust make them an irresistible festive treat and the perfect gift.
