Situated at the northern tip of Hsinchu County, Xinfeng faces the Taiwan Strait to the west. Legend says Dutch sailors from the Ming era landed here when their ship was damaged, giving rise to the name “Hongmao Harbor.” The area’s rich coastal resources form Xinfeng’s development niche. To the southeast, Provincial Highway 1 and County Route 3 create a spacious industrial zone that has significantly boosted local prosperity. The opening of the West Coast Expressway and the development of coastal eco-resources—alongside golf courses and recreational parks—make Xinfeng one of the county’s most promising tourism destinations.
Xinfeng’s agricultural specialties include rice, melons, watermelons, peeled chili peppers, and salted eggs. Watermelon is its signature product, celebrated each harvest season with a three-day Watermelon Festival. Visitors can sample many varieties, learn about cultivation methods, and join fun activities—making it a must-see summer event.
