Hukou Township

Hukou Township

Hukou—originally called Dahu Kou or Dawokou—is located in northern Hsinchu County, bordering Taoyuan. As the site of Hsinchu Science Park, it has driven surrounding industrial and commercial growth. The Old Street in Hukou is a well-known cultural and historical tourism spot. When the Taipei–Hsinchu railway first opened, it stopped at Dahu Kou; today’s Old Hukou Catholic Church was the original station. After the railway moved west to New Hukou, the old town’s bustle faded, leaving only the Old Street’s scenery. Now, with renewed tourism and rural revitalization efforts, Old Hukou is experiencing a second spring.

The township’s tea tourism area spans about 70 hectares of hillside along Huxin Road (County Route 13) in Hunan Village, near scenic sites such as the United Daily News Leisure Center, Jiujiong Lake, Jinshi Temple, and Old Hukou Street. Large coaches can access the tidy, sprawling tea gardens, where the fragrant and smooth “Chang’an Tea” thrives in an elegant, verdant setting—perfect for a summer countryside retreat.

Hukou’s leisure orchard spans about 25 hectares of slopes along Huxin Road (County Route 13) in Hunan Village, adjacent to Jiujiong Lake, the United Daily News Leisure Center, Jinshi Temple, Old Hukou Street, and Yimin Temple. With easy parking and coach access, the park features a gentle stream and refreshing scenery, offering cool respite, distant mountain views, and tranquil green fields. Ideal for family outings, the orchard also serves hearty free-range chicken meals.
