With Hsinchu County’s rapid population growth and urban expansion, traditional roadside funerary rites have caused traffic disruptions, environmental pollution, and disturbance to residents’ daily life. As former burial grounds on the urban fringe become surrounded by development, there is a growing need for relocation and modern facilities. To enhance the county’s funerary environment and streamline services, the government plans to develop a one‑stop county-operated Life Memorial Park on ten parcels of state land in the Poluo area of Hukou Township (land parcel No. 655 et al.). The park will include a funeral home, crematorium, columbarium, and eco‑burial zones, allowing families to complete all funeral rites—body preparation, ceremony, burial/cr spacing—in one integrated location.
Since initiating the Life Memorial Park project, the County Government has held multiple public briefings and gathered stakeholders’ feedback. After thorough review, the Department of Civil Affairs recommended terminating the detailed planning contract as of August 29, 2023, to reframe the county’s long‑term funerary policy. Moving forward, each township and city office will assess local demand and develop appropriate facilities within existing public cemeteries to provide residents with convenient, compliant, and community‑based funeral services aligned with statutory regulations and local needs.
